Business Spotlight: Smokin Boles Airsoft — Where Play Meets Purpose in the Heart of Boles, Arkansas

by Brittany Maine

In the small, scenic community of Boles, Arkansas — a place known more for its quiet curves and backroads than weekend thrill-seekers — something unique is taking shape. It’s called Smokin Boles Airsoft, and while it may sound like a tongue-in-cheek name, what’s happening here is something the local youth — and their families — won’t forget.

Officially launched on June 7, 2024, Smokin Boles Airsoft isn’t your average small-town startup. It's an airsoft field and event space built from the ground up by a local CNA with a big heart, a wild idea, and a mission to provide kids in Scott County with more than just a good time. It's a place that blends high-energy fun with mentorship, teaching, and community building — all in one dusty, adrenaline-fueled package.

“I’m just a big kid at heart,” the founder shares with a smile. “I love having fun and want to give others a place to feel in control of their own destiny.”

The idea was sparked — as many great ones are — by chance. After stumbling on airsoft videos online, he was hooked. The rush of the game, the team-based strategies, the sense of camaraderie: it struck a nerve. And after playing a few matches himself, he didn’t just want to be a participant — he wanted to build his own field and make it something others could enjoy too.

“I watched video after video thinking, ‘Where was this when I was a kid?’” he recalls. “I didn’t always have great outlets, and sometimes that got me into trouble. I wanted to build something better for the next generation.”

That dream is now a reality. Nestled in the woods, the field offers open play days every other Saturday, where players — from total beginners to weekend warriors — suit up and face off in fast-paced, objective-based games. Entry is just $10 for those with their own gear, or $20 for a full rental setup, which includes eye protection, a face mask, an airsoft rifle, and two loaded magazines.

“This isn’t just about playing,” he says. “We’re teaching teamwork, leadership, communication — even basic gun safety. It’s fake ammo, but the lessons are real.”

Every game day begins with a structured check-in, followed by safety briefings, gear orientation, and clear rules. And then the fun begins — matches full of strategy, action, and the kind of social connection many kids are craving more than ever.

“You’d be surprised how many kids come out shy, quiet, unsure — and by the end of the day, they’re leading teams, cheering each other on, and asking when the next game is,” he adds.

“I’m doing this to create an airsoft community, especially for those who need a safe place to be — a place to feel welcome, respected, and just have a blast being themselves.”

While the business was born from a desire to support kids who may not always have access to enrichment opportunities, the mission is fully inclusive. From seasoned players to first-timers, and from teenagers to team-building adults, Smokin Boles Airsoft welcomes everyone — and that includes the birthday parties and private bookings that help keep things running strong.

If you’re ready to get in on the action, Smokin Boles Airsoft makes it simple and affordable.

“These introductory prices are about more than affordability,” he adds. “They reflect our goal of making sure everyone — from all walks of life — has a chance to experience something amazing and grow in a positive way.”

While Smokin Boles Airsoft is still in its first year, the vision for the future is expansive. The current 6-acre field is already home to four developed play zones — but the plan is to double that to 12 acres over the next few years. With that expansion will come new game styles, including full-scale military simulation weekends, nighttime events, and even Halloween-themed zombie nights — complete with costumed participants and immersive storylines.

“We want to create experiences,” he says. “Stuff that kids and adults will remember. Stuff that brings people together in real life, not just on a screen.”

And the efforts don’t stop at airsoft. This spring, the family planted more than 2,500 berry bushes — including blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and boysenberries — with plans for a pick-your-own berry farm and sales at local farmers markets.

“We’re working toward more than just a business,” he explains. “We want this to be a little ecosystem of opportunity. Whether it’s airsoft, berries, or a summer job for a teen who needs one — this land can serve the community in a lot of ways.”

Let’s talk about the name — Smokin Boles Airsoft. It’s memorable, playful, and yes, it’s gotten people talking. And that was always part of the plan.

“I wanted something that stood out — something people would remember, even if they didn’t get it at first,” he says. “We use smoke grenades during games, and we’re right in Boles. It just made sense. Plus, a little controversy isn’t always a bad thing if it gets people curious enough to come check it out.”

The logo — a helmet used as a bowl, filled with colorful airsoft grenades — ties it all together. No guns, no aggression — just a nod to creativity, community, and controlled chaos.

As Smokin Boles Airsoft continues to grow, one thing remains at the center of it all: heart.

“Some of these kids don’t have great male role models. Some don’t have structure or respect in their lives. I want to give them that — even if it’s just for a few hours on a Saturday.”

He’s proud of what’s already been built, but even more excited about what’s coming. And for anyone still unsure about what Smokin Boles Airsoft is all about?

“Come see it for yourself,” he says. “Bring your kid. Book a party. Join a game day. It’s not about being the best shooter — it’s about being part of something bigger. That’s what this place is really about.”
